Small Templates ~ Barn, Fish Bowl and Circus Tent

I was asked by a friend if I could entertain the kids that came into their grocery store during their grand opening by having some type of kids craft project using Bigfoot & Pickle Face rubber stamps.

I designed some templates for them to stamp on to, then they colored them in and put them onto the bookmark with a glue stick. I did not have my camera along to capture them rubber stamping and coloring, so here are my samples.

Some if the kids were reluctant at first to sit down, but once they started stamping and coloring there was no stopping them. Although I was not there to sell, one mom did buy my display sample of the Farm Friends stamping kit and another clear stamp set to compliment the kit. She emailed me and said that her kids rubber stamped all day Sunday and today [no school today].

So below are the templates that I used for the bookmarks. Right click and save them to a folder on your computer, print out, cut and decorate. As for the backing for the bookmark, I just cut a piece of card stock that was a bit larger then the image and put a decorative top border to give it color. I then cut at and angle to give it a "tag" look. I was going to hole punch and put decorative string or ribbon through the hole but did not have enough supplies that coordinated with it. Instead I used a punch that I had laying around and glued it to the top part of the tag. Use your imagination and what you have handy and you will be amazed at what you can create.

I tried to put as many images on a sheet as to not waste paper. I printed it on white card stock, but regular white printer paper should work. The templates are a copyright 2010 of Bigfoot & Pickle Face, I just did not want to print it on the template and have it print out on your final copy. Feel free to use the templates, just give me the courtesy and credit of mentioning my name if you are going to post it somewhere on the web. The fish bowl is sold as a stamp on Bigfoot & Pickle Face storefront, if you would like to purchase it as a stamp. You will need a 4" x 4" acrylic block for the stamp.

Matchbox Card Project #1

This week I am going to focus on use of homemade matchbox and show you what fun it can be when used as a party favor or as a card. An adult will need to do the printing and cutting out of the matchbox bottom, but do involve your child in the gluing and decorating of the matchbox card.

This is a great idea for Valentine's Day, and you will be giving away candy the kids will actually eat [or an adult will sneak].

I have modified the matchbox template to come up with one that will fit (2) Hershey Nuggets. I put 4 to a page so that you can mass produce and get the most use out of your paper. Keep the scraps as you may find a use for them like wrapping the outside of the nuggets. Cutting out the matchbox was the most lengthy part of this project, but if you print a bunch in advance and cut them out while you are watching TV it will go quicker.

Print out the template below on card stock [if you are having issues with the image, email me and I can send it to you as a pdf.].

Cut along the solid lines and score along the dotted lines. Fold and glue each box.

Cut a 3 1/2" x 5 5/8" in a coordinating piece of card stock. Score along the long side [5 5/8" side] at 2 1/2" and 3 1/8".

Place the 2 matchbox bottoms inside the card and mark a spot for a hole punch, do the same to the top of the card.

Use a hole punch and punch a hole where you marked. Glue the 2 matchbox bottoms together and then glue them to the inside of the card, align it to your scored area.

Cut out [4] 1" x 3 1/4" strips to use for the wrapper around the Hershey Nuggets. Wrap the paper around the candy and glue together on the bottom.

Put a blank piece of paper on the inside of your card for your notes and decorate the outside of your card depending on the event. I used a piece of ribbon to close the card. The ribbon was from an old helium balloon and when I get rid of the balloon I keep the ribbon ~ recycle.

This project is both yummy and fun. According to the Hershey Nuggets bags that I purchased, a serving is 4 candies for 200 calories, and there are about 9 servings per bag. This treat card will be the hit of any party and the receiver will love it. Have fun and spend time with your children making kids crafts, it will bring out the kid in you!

How to make an I Spy Game

You will find this project is so much fun to do with the kids, as they can help choose what to use for the I Spy game pieces. Of course I needed a way to incorporate our wonderful clear stamps into this project so with the use of Shrinky Dinks we were able to condense the size of the image and make it a fun way to incorporate it into the game.

Here I stamped my clear rubber stamp images with Stazon Black ink onto the Shrinky Dink and then colored the images with permanent markers. Stuck them in the oven and cooked them according to the Shrinky Dinks instructions. I used one image from each of the 3 themes we carry, Fun with Fish, Farm Friends and Circus Act. I did a different quantity of each so that they can count how many they see of each when the kids play the game. I drew some pumpkins to add to the fun.

Next, find all the goodies you want to include in your I Spy Game. Use paper clips, safety pins, coins, beads, buttons, some confetti or whatever else you can find handy~don't forget your Shrinky Dink images.

I cut a circle of different sizes from coordinating card stock ~ so that I could layer it later and give my I Spy Game some durability. If you are unable to do a circle, then a square will work just great! Use an Exacto knife with a ruler to cut out the square.

Then clip all pieces of card stock together to layer it.

Cut your layered pieces into a square and then glue them all together. I used a little bit of glue on each sheet around the circle area. I cut another plain piece of card stock the same size as my finished layer pieces to use for the back. Do not put the back on yet!

Glue a clear sandwich bag onto the back of your layered card stock, glue just around the square part and then fill the bag with your "treasures". Use glue to put the back on to cover the baggie and then I used clear packing tape all around the edges to seal it up [framed it]. You can make a note of how many items you put inside the baggie before you seal it up; I did not as some of the pieces do not show because I left the baggie square. Ask your child "how many yellow paperclips can you find", as it is a great way to re-enforce counting.

Have fun with this project and take it on trips as a way to entertain your child~it does not take up much space. Kids crafts are fun when you include your children and rubber stamping can be incorporated in almost any project :).

Rubber Stamping on Shipping Tags

I have a box of shipping tags laying around and so I decided they would make a nice tag for a treat bag. I know I have been focusing on different type of "treat bags", but I wanted to give different options for Halloween as it is just around the corner. If you are having a party or a play date, they make a nice little bag for snacks. Put in a party mix, trail mix or some of your favorite candy and let the kids enjoy. Include them and have them make their own tag for an afternoon craft project and then put the tag on their treat bag for a nice surprise.

This is a very easy project. I took a shipping tag like the one shown below and I glued it onto some printed paper and cut around the tag; do the same process to the back side of the tag. My tag is not white, it was more of a cream color so I covered it with the patterned paper as I don't like the color by itself much. I stamped the pig image from our Bigfoot & Pickle Face Creations rubber stamp Farm Collection on the tag. I added a spider and pumpkin to make it look like Halloween. I removed the string and threaded an orange ribbon through the hang hole and used a brad to hold the ribbon together.

I purchased these "Bagettes" at the craft store, where they had a different variety of sizes to choose from. I filled up the bag with goodies, sealed it and added my newly decorated tag.

Here is the finished tag without the treat bag. I used a blender sponge to add the blue and the green ink around my stamped image. I layered the head of the pig on my stamped image to give it some height and added wiggly eyes for fun.

There are endless ideas for decorating these tags, just use your imagination and include your kids when you are doing craft projects as that will add to the fun. Happy stamping and never stop having fun! Thanks for visiting our blog.

Decorated Sandwich Bag for Treats

I know the previous post talked about decorating header bags that come with your clear stamps, but I realize you may not find those types of bags so here is another option.

You can use generic sandwich or snack bags and fill them with treats. Halloween is just around the corner and if you need something for a party or you want to give out individual bags, you can add a bit of a decoration to a sandwich bag and be the "cool" house on the block. These are great projects to work on with the kids and they will get a joy out of filling the bags.

First measure the size of your sandwich bag on the bottom. Mine was 6-1/2". I wanted to have a flap of 2" so I cut a piece of card stock 6-1/2" x 4" and then scored at 2" on the 4" side.

Staple your card stock to the bottom part of the sandwich bag. You can staple along the middle or down toward the edge of your card stock because you will be covering the staples not matter where you put them. You are stapling at the bottom so you can put your goodies in when you are finished.

Cut our your pieces you want to use to decorate your treat bag. Here I cut out pieces for layering.

Then decorate your bag. Use your clear rubber stamps to add additional images. I did some layering to bring out some additional colors.

Here is the same concept used with a patterned Halloween Ziploc bag. I put the card stock at the top and attached it to the front side above the closer. You can open the bag in the back to fill with treats.

I used clear rubber stamps from our Bigfoot & Pickle Face Creations Farm Collection to add additional decorations to the bag. These clear rubber stamps are great because they can be used for any theme. I used the child safe/washable ink stamp pad in black to stamp the images and then I colored with a combination of colored pencils and markers.

Mini Pizza Box

These mini pizza boxes are great for gift cards and to put candy and treats into and it will even fit chocolate chip cookies. Make them for a birthday party or a holiday event. You will find this project very simple to put together, the hard part will be deciding on how to decorate it!

Cut a piece of of card stock 6" x 11". On the 6" side score at 1" and 5". Turn the card stock around and on the 11" side score at 1", 5", 6" and 10". Cut on the 11" side shown in red to create the flaps on your box.


Adhere the flaps to the inside of the box.

Decorate your box and fill it with goodies. You may want to decorate the box before you glue it together, as it may be easier especially if you are using embellishments. Have fun!

How to make Rain Sticks using Paper towel tubes

This project is so simple and fun and the end result is the beautiful sound of rain. Kids love this project and it does not take a long time to do.

You will need the following supplies:
[1] piece of card stock cut to 6-1/2" x 11"
[1] empty paper towel tube [or cardboard wrapping paper tube or mailing tube]
Aluminum foil
1 to 2 cups of rice ~ depending on the size of your rain stick
[2] squares of card stock cut at 4" in size
[2] rubber bands
Supplies to decorate


Decorate the 6-1/2" x 11" piece of card stock with stamps, stickers, markers or crayons. On this project we used stamps from our Bigfoot & Pickle Face Creations Farm set and stamped the images with the child safe/washable ink pad in black. Put glue on the back side of the decorated 6-1/2" x 11" card stock and use double sided tape along the edge and then roll the card stock onto the paper town tube.

Seal off one end of the tube with the rubber band and the 4" square of card stock. Cut the aluminum foil to slightly larger then the length of your cardboard tube. Twist it and form into a snaky-spiral shape and insert into the cardboard tube. Pour the rice into the open end of the tube and then seal off that end with the remaining rubber band and 4" square of card stock.

Turn to listen to the sounds of the rain.

Bookmark fun with clear rubber stamps

It is always fun to stamp around with your clear rubber stamps. Well all that stamping can create a very nice project, why not make it useful. Today we are looking at making a simple bookmark using the clear rubber stamps. Bookmarks are great for gifts to give to grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles or make one for yourself. This project will encourage your child to read and use their bookmark!
Cut 2 pieces of paper in card stock. One size 2-1/2" x 8-1/2" and the other slightly smaller at 1-3/4" x 6". You can modify the size and shapes anyway you like. Here I cut blue card stock as the larger piece and used white card stock as my smaller piece.


I rounded the corners of the paper ~ I have a corner punch that you can purchase at any craft store or you can leave the corners the way they are. I then stamped my image on the blue stock with "VersaMark" Watermark stamp pad that I bought at the local craft store. This type of stamp pad gives a watermark look on plain colored paper and does not make it so plain looking; great for a nice background look. It is noted on the back of the stamp pad that it is child-safe. I then stamped my next image on the clear white paper with a black ink stamp pad.

Lastly, I finished the look by adding some color by coloring the stamped images and putting the two pieces of paper together with double sided sticky tape. Here I added some ribbon and some brads to complete the look. Use your imagination and work with your child to allow their creativity to flow.

The images I used in this project were from the Bigfoot & Pickle Face Creations Farm collection Farm set 1 SKU#FRM01. I used our child safe/washable stamp ink pad in black. Purchase one of our starter kits, it comes in 3 different fun themes, they make a great gift too.

Spinner Card Instructions

Spinner cards are very easy to make and lots of fun to give. This card is simple to make with your child and they will have the ability to use their creative side. There are many ways to do this card as you can see in the end result. Use your imagination and you will be amazed at what you will create. You will probably need additional postage due to the weight and thickness of the card.

The end result of your card will be 4-1/4" x 5", as I was able to create 2 cards from one piece of card stock.

In the instructions I used from our Bigfoot & Pickle Face Creations line the snail SKU# FSH04 clear rubber stamps and the child safe/washable ink pad in black. This will match the envelope I did the day before.

Cut a piece of card stock paper 4-1/4" x 10". You should be able to get 2 cards out of an 8-1/2" x 11" paper. Score in landscape at 5", and fold in half. Out of another coordinating card stock cut one piece to 4-1/4" x 5".

Print out the template below, it looks like a long oval. This is the shape you will want to use for your spinner part of your card. There are many ways to create this shape. I printed mine on card stock and then re-enforced it with tape on the back so I can use over and over again. I created it in Word by drawing some lines at 3-1/4" and then putting some round lines on the end. The width of the shape is about 5/8" or less; it should not be any wider then that, as a penny "sandwich" needs to fit in the groove and should not fall out. If it is larger then that the penny will not sit in properly, so it is better to have it smaller.

Another way to make the end holes is to draw your lines on your paper and then use a 1/2" hole punch on either end and then cut along your lines. When I get a hole punch I will demonstrate in a different blog.
With my template, I trace it with a pencil onto the back of my 4-1/4" x 5" card stock paper and I used a straight edge ruler and a exacto knife and cut out my shape. You will need to assist your child with this process as it will involve sharp instruments.

Next you will need to either use Foam tape or cardboard as demonstrated on my "green" paper, to raise up the image to allow for the pennies to rotate. I used double sided tape to adhere my cardboard to the green paper. Next make a "sandwich" out of your 2 pennies by putting a round piece of double-sided foam tape between them-the foam tape should just be a bit smaller then the penny [if it is too small your penny will fall out of the track. You can find this item at your local craft store. You should be able to insert your penny sandwich in the slot and it should move freely back and forth.

Use double sided tape to adhere the facing of your card to your main card [in my example, the green to the orange]. I taped onto the cardboard double sided tape and stuck it to my main card. Lastly, decorate your card.

NOTE: you can and probably should decorate your card BEFORE you put it all together. At that time you can think of what you want to put as an image on your spinner and that what sayings you want to use. To make the instructions simple, I decorated the card after putting it all together so you can understand the simplicity of it.

I printout out my sayings and cut them out and used double-sided tape to place where I wanted them, but you can use clear rubber stamps and stamp directly to the card. Make sure your image you are going to place on the penny sandwich is larger then the penny, as you don't want the penny to show. If you like a certain image and it is too small, you can always layer the image to a larger piece of coordinating paper. On the inside of the card, cut a piece of white card stock 3-1/2" x 4" to write your message. Here are a couple additional cards that I did.

Have fun with this project, as your imagination is your only limitation. Kids love to do this card when they are doing their kids crafts, so work with them on their homemade cards and you will be amazed at what they can create. With the above cards, I made my own flowers out of scrap card stock and used a brad to hold it all together.
