Swing/Flip Homemade Card

This card cool because it is different and very fun to give away. Think outside the box when decorating it and always include the kids. An adult should cut out the card because it is a bit tricky, but the kids can do the designing and add their own twist.

Here is the back of the card when it flips. I used white card stock for a message to be written and layered it on top of coordinating card stock.

To do the outside card, first cut a piece of card stock at 6" x 5 1/2". On the 6" side score at 2 1/2" and 3 1/2". See below image as a guideline. Cut inside the card creating a 1" frame and stopping at the score line. Usually rulers are 1" in width so you can use that as a guide and cut along the ruler with an exacto knife if you have no other option [just make sure you stop at the score lines]. Fold the card like a "z" along the scored lines. When you open and close the card it should move easily.

Cut 2 pieces of card stock 3 1/2" x 4" and glue to the inside panel. This will cover up your score lines. When you decorate this card, be aware that the front of the card will be smaller then when you have the card fully opened [when you flip it]. So decorate it in the folded or closed position, otherwise you may lose some of your design behind a frame.

Time to add your own design. Here is the card from the top view. Use this as an invitation to a party, the recipient will have lots of fun flipping the card to view all the details.

Small Templates ~ Barn, Fish Bowl and Circus Tent

I was asked by a friend if I could entertain the kids that came into their grocery store during their grand opening by having some type of kids craft project using Bigfoot & Pickle Face rubber stamps.

I designed some templates for them to stamp on to, then they colored them in and put them onto the bookmark with a glue stick. I did not have my camera along to capture them rubber stamping and coloring, so here are my samples.

Some if the kids were reluctant at first to sit down, but once they started stamping and coloring there was no stopping them. Although I was not there to sell, one mom did buy my display sample of the Farm Friends stamping kit and another clear stamp set to compliment the kit. She emailed me and said that her kids rubber stamped all day Sunday and today [no school today].

So below are the templates that I used for the bookmarks. Right click and save them to a folder on your computer, print out, cut and decorate. As for the backing for the bookmark, I just cut a piece of card stock that was a bit larger then the image and put a decorative top border to give it color. I then cut at and angle to give it a "tag" look. I was going to hole punch and put decorative string or ribbon through the hole but did not have enough supplies that coordinated with it. Instead I used a punch that I had laying around and glued it to the top part of the tag. Use your imagination and what you have handy and you will be amazed at what you can create.

I tried to put as many images on a sheet as to not waste paper. I printed it on white card stock, but regular white printer paper should work. The templates are a copyright 2010 of Bigfoot & Pickle Face, I just did not want to print it on the template and have it print out on your final copy. Feel free to use the templates, just give me the courtesy and credit of mentioning my name if you are going to post it somewhere on the web. The fish bowl is sold as a stamp on Bigfoot & Pickle Face storefront, if you would like to purchase it as a stamp. You will need a 4" x 4" acrylic block for the stamp.

How to make a Shaker Card

All crafts are so much fun to do because it takes you out of your routine and gives you the ability to create. Shaker cards are fun to make and fun to give. This is a very easy and quick project to put together with your child.


First choose and image you want to show through your window. I used from our Bigfoot & Pickle Face rubber stamp collection our fish bowl and one of our fun fish images. I rubber stamped both images onto card stock with our child safe/washable ink stamp pad and then I colored in the fish.

I used the exacto knife to cut and "x" in the fish tank and then used sharp scissors to cut out the tank itself. Cut on the inside of the stamped image so you still have the outline of the tank on your card stock.

Cut a piece of Acetate or sheet protector [Acetate is thicker and can be found in the scrapbook section of your local craft store] the same size as your card stock. Turn your "fish tank" onto the back side and glue the clear sheet to it. Then take strips of foam tape and go around your image leaving no spaces, otherwise if you do leave a space your beads will fall through. Depending on the size of your beads, if they are thicker then the foam tape, put another layer of foam tape on top of your existing foam tape [hope this makes sense!]. Your beads will get stuck on the window if your foam tape is not thick enough. Place some beads on top of the clear plastic window~do not use too many as you don't want to cover up your image. Remember, a little bit goes a long way.

Peel of the tape on your foam tape and then stick the "back on" or card stock that has the image you want to show through your window. You have most of your shaker card done!

Have fun decorating and sending out your card! No go and do some stamping and include your children. Kid crafting is so much fun.

How to make an I Spy Game

You will find this project is so much fun to do with the kids, as they can help choose what to use for the I Spy game pieces. Of course I needed a way to incorporate our wonderful clear stamps into this project so with the use of Shrinky Dinks we were able to condense the size of the image and make it a fun way to incorporate it into the game.

Here I stamped my clear rubber stamp images with Stazon Black ink onto the Shrinky Dink and then colored the images with permanent markers. Stuck them in the oven and cooked them according to the Shrinky Dinks instructions. I used one image from each of the 3 themes we carry, Fun with Fish, Farm Friends and Circus Act. I did a different quantity of each so that they can count how many they see of each when the kids play the game. I drew some pumpkins to add to the fun.

Next, find all the goodies you want to include in your I Spy Game. Use paper clips, safety pins, coins, beads, buttons, some confetti or whatever else you can find handy~don't forget your Shrinky Dink images.

I cut a circle of different sizes from coordinating card stock ~ so that I could layer it later and give my I Spy Game some durability. If you are unable to do a circle, then a square will work just great! Use an Exacto knife with a ruler to cut out the square.

Then clip all pieces of card stock together to layer it.

Cut your layered pieces into a square and then glue them all together. I used a little bit of glue on each sheet around the circle area. I cut another plain piece of card stock the same size as my finished layer pieces to use for the back. Do not put the back on yet!

Glue a clear sandwich bag onto the back of your layered card stock, glue just around the square part and then fill the bag with your "treasures". Use glue to put the back on to cover the baggie and then I used clear packing tape all around the edges to seal it up [framed it]. You can make a note of how many items you put inside the baggie before you seal it up; I did not as some of the pieces do not show because I left the baggie square. Ask your child "how many yellow paperclips can you find", as it is a great way to re-enforce counting.

Have fun with this project and take it on trips as a way to entertain your child~it does not take up much space. Kids crafts are fun when you include your children and rubber stamping can be incorporated in almost any project :).

How to make a Corner Bookmark

Corner bookmarks are so easy to make and are also functional. This is a great project to do with your child and they can use their very own bookmark for the book they are currently reading. Wonderful for gifts or a just because I love you and does not take a long time to do, so involve your child as they will have lots of fun.

Out of card stock in the same color (1) 5" x 5" and (1) 3-1/2" x 3-1/2" square. Then out of coordinating paper or card stock cut (2) 3-1/4" x 3-1/4" and (2) 2-3/4" x 2-3/4" squares. I did the base a nice rose color card stock and then a stripe paper and a deep purple for the layers.

Take the 5" x 5" square and make a mark with the pencil at the 2-1/2" point on all 4 sides.

Then at a diagonal, score all 4 sides where you marked at the 2-1/2"~ if you don't have a scorer, then fold the paper. You will be folding 2 adjacent corners and cutting off the other two corners where you scored. See below photo's for an example.

Set the above pieces aside and take your (1) 3-1/2" x 3-1/2", (1) 3-1/4" x 3-1/4" and (1) 2-3/4" x 2-3/4" sheets. Put them diagonal in your paper cutter and make them into a triangle. If you do not have a paper cutter, fold in half and cut with the scissors.

Layer your pieces and adhere to each other with double sided tape or with a glue stick. The triangles you will place on the triangle side of the bookmark and the square on the opposite side.

Here is what the finished bookmark should look like.

Now it is time to decorate! I cut out a piece of white card stock paper at 2-1/4" x 2-1/4" and then took another piece of scrap card stock and stamped the fish stamp from our Bigfoot & Pickle Face Creations Fun with Fish collection SKU#FSH06 and used our child safe/washable ink stamp pad in black. Color in the images and cut to fit your bookmark.

Here is the finished product, front and back.

Have fun and use your imagination when decorating. You can use foam tape and bring the image up higher, or use glitter glue to give it a sparkly look. Have fun with your kid crafts with your child and have fun stamping.

Treat Bag decorated with clear rubber stamps

This cute little treat bag is very simple to make and is great for any season or theme. Fill it with candy for Halloween, knick knacks for a birthday party or a gift card for that special event. It is 2" wide so lots of room for all sorts of goodies. This project is fun for the whole family and a very simple project to do with your children. Kids crafts are fun and educational for your children, especially when your are doing it with them.

The completed bag size is 3-1/2" x 2-3/4" x 2". Print the template below onto card stock. Right click and save it to your computer and open to print. It should fit on a 8-1/2" x 11" paper. You want to use card stock as it will give the bag some durability. If you have problems printing the template, email me and I and send it to you as a pdf file.
Cut out the template on the solid lines and score on the dotted lines. Once I cut out the image I used the decorative scissors on the top of the bag to give it a fancy look.

You will decorate the bag before you glue it together, as it is easier to do so when it is flat. I cut out 2 pieces of card stock sizes 2-1/2" x 3" to put on the front and back of the bag. You can also use a decorative paper to jazz up your bag. I stamped clear stamp image onto white card stock and colored it in. It is wise to use washable markers, crayons or pencils when working with children. Here I used from our Bigfoot & Pickle Face Creations Fun with Fish set SKU#FSH05 and our child safe/washable ink stamp pad in black.

Cut out your images and decorate your bag. This is the time to use your imagination. Put a nice saying on your bag to complete the look. I used foam tape to make my images stand out. You will want to do this so that when you thread the ribbon through the front of the bag it goes under your image and saying. Use double sided sticky tape or a glue stick to glue your bag together. Make sure that you fold in the side flap and then at the bottom the square flaps go on the inside. Cut a 15" piece of ribbon and tie it around your bag and knot at the top once you put your treat inside.

Spinner Card Instructions

Spinner cards are very easy to make and lots of fun to give. This card is simple to make with your child and they will have the ability to use their creative side. There are many ways to do this card as you can see in the end result. Use your imagination and you will be amazed at what you will create. You will probably need additional postage due to the weight and thickness of the card.

The end result of your card will be 4-1/4" x 5", as I was able to create 2 cards from one piece of card stock.

In the instructions I used from our Bigfoot & Pickle Face Creations line the snail SKU# FSH04 clear rubber stamps and the child safe/washable ink pad in black. This will match the envelope I did the day before.

Cut a piece of card stock paper 4-1/4" x 10". You should be able to get 2 cards out of an 8-1/2" x 11" paper. Score in landscape at 5", and fold in half. Out of another coordinating card stock cut one piece to 4-1/4" x 5".

Print out the template below, it looks like a long oval. This is the shape you will want to use for your spinner part of your card. There are many ways to create this shape. I printed mine on card stock and then re-enforced it with tape on the back so I can use over and over again. I created it in Word by drawing some lines at 3-1/4" and then putting some round lines on the end. The width of the shape is about 5/8" or less; it should not be any wider then that, as a penny "sandwich" needs to fit in the groove and should not fall out. If it is larger then that the penny will not sit in properly, so it is better to have it smaller.

Another way to make the end holes is to draw your lines on your paper and then use a 1/2" hole punch on either end and then cut along your lines. When I get a hole punch I will demonstrate in a different blog.
With my template, I trace it with a pencil onto the back of my 4-1/4" x 5" card stock paper and I used a straight edge ruler and a exacto knife and cut out my shape. You will need to assist your child with this process as it will involve sharp instruments.

Next you will need to either use Foam tape or cardboard as demonstrated on my "green" paper, to raise up the image to allow for the pennies to rotate. I used double sided tape to adhere my cardboard to the green paper. Next make a "sandwich" out of your 2 pennies by putting a round piece of double-sided foam tape between them-the foam tape should just be a bit smaller then the penny [if it is too small your penny will fall out of the track. You can find this item at your local craft store. You should be able to insert your penny sandwich in the slot and it should move freely back and forth.

Use double sided tape to adhere the facing of your card to your main card [in my example, the green to the orange]. I taped onto the cardboard double sided tape and stuck it to my main card. Lastly, decorate your card.

NOTE: you can and probably should decorate your card BEFORE you put it all together. At that time you can think of what you want to put as an image on your spinner and that what sayings you want to use. To make the instructions simple, I decorated the card after putting it all together so you can understand the simplicity of it.

I printout out my sayings and cut them out and used double-sided tape to place where I wanted them, but you can use clear rubber stamps and stamp directly to the card. Make sure your image you are going to place on the penny sandwich is larger then the penny, as you don't want the penny to show. If you like a certain image and it is too small, you can always layer the image to a larger piece of coordinating paper. On the inside of the card, cut a piece of white card stock 3-1/2" x 4" to write your message. Here are a couple additional cards that I did.

Have fun with this project, as your imagination is your only limitation. Kids love to do this card when they are doing their kids crafts, so work with them on their homemade cards and you will be amazed at what they can create. With the above cards, I made my own flowers out of scrap card stock and used a brad to hold it all together. Homemade Card with Clear Rubber Stamp Fish

Here is another fun and simple card to make. We are using this format for a thank you card, but you can use it for any occasion. We used a clear rubber stamp to decorate this card from the Bigfoot & Pickle Face Fish series.

First cut out of card stock one 4" x 9-1/2". You should be able to get 2 cards out of one 8-1/2" x 11" paper. Remember to keep your scraps as you will use them eventually.

Score the card at 5-1/2". You can fold and use the card many ways depending on the design you want to end up with.

Cut one 4" x 4" and a coordinating strip of 2" x 4" [which I used from left over paper]. You can cut these strips to the size and look you want to achieve.

Decorate the card to your liking. Here I layered the 4" x 4" paper on my card and then placed the 2" x 4" strip on top of that. You do not need to use card stock as you may find a decorative paper you want to use that is not card stock.

I stamped from our Bigfoot & Pickle Face Creations line the clear rubber stamp fish from SKU#FSH05. I put a "Thank you for the gift" message on the card. We used our child safe/washable ink pad in green and colored the image with washable markers. On the outside of the fish we just dabbed it with the washable blue and pink ink pads. Remember, use your imagination and you will be amazed at what you will design.

Cut a 3-3/4" x 3-3/4" white square to place on the inside of the card for your message.
